1,600 Backlogged Cases From Local Lab Now Cleared
Alaska DHSS announced tonight in their daily Case Count Summary that "the backlog of 1,600 cases from the lab reported earlier this month has all been added to the dashboard as of today."
The state also added a note of caution for Alaska residents, writing that "all parts of Alaska's health care and public health system are under strain, so it's not uncommon for technology failures and personnel shortages to occur throughout the system, which regularly causes delays in timely reporting for many providers."
Alaska continues to see an increasing number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the state, with a large number of those new cases and hospitalizations occurring in Anchorage.
Today, the state saw three more recent deaths caused by the pandemic, 589 new cases statewide, with 277 of those new cases of people infected with the virus within the municipality of Anchorage.
According to the state Coronavirus dashboard, the municipality has 18 staffed ICU beds available for the city of Anchorage today.
