Alaska AG Retweets Stochastic Terrorist Libs of TikTok Account
The ignorance and stupidity here is next level.
Of all the things I thought I'd be doing this morning, writing an account about our extremist AG and DEED commissioner wasn't one of them. But, here I sit anyway because when government officials do something so deranged, the ignorance and stupidity must be documented.
For a few days now, I've sat and watched Fairbanks resident, Kelly Lindsey Nash, spread nonsensical propaganda about the Anchorage School District - chiefly that the district placed a disclaimer on a copy of a constitution that had been distributed by Hillsdale College - a private, conservative, Christian liberal arts college located in Hillsdale, Michigan.

I won't share all of Nash's social media lunacy, but on Nov 8, a post made to her Facebook account accused the school district's leadership of being communist, and the disclamer an act of war cuz ASD hates the constitution and stuffz. 🙄

After researching over the weekend, I learned that school districts across the country, including ASD, use disclaimers on materials provided by outside organizations or individuals to make clear that the district is not endorsing the viewpoint or messaging of those materials, which in this case came from a Christian college. This practice is fairly standard nationwide and is rooted in long-standing policies designed to protect instructional neutrality, avoid First Amendment entanglements, and ensure that families understand when something is not part of the district-developed curriculum or materials.
The policy basically exists to help maintain clear boundaries between public schools and outside advocacy, religious, or political interests, while still allowing students access to a broad range of educational resources without implying district approval of any particular ideology or viewpoint.
The Anchorage School District, however, claims through a spokesperson that the sticker was "erroneously" placed on the out-of-state Christian college's materials - a statement that doesn't seem to align with conversations I've had with others associated with the school district. It seems more of an attempt to save face with Alaska's AG, who was BIG MAD over the sticker.
Anyway, Kelly Lindsey Nash and Klan didn't "do their own research" first, opting instead to spread misinformation, which unsurprisingly landed in the lap of the stochastic terrorist account, Libs of TikTok.

Alaska's new AG, Stephen J. Cox, an out-of-state hire and clearly a deranged, far-right weirdo, retweeted Libs of TikTok's post about ASD. Hey, you don't suppose he’s trying to incite threats of violence like the bomb threats that follow when Libs of TikTok tweets, do ya?

So incensed was Nash over a policy she wasn't aware of that she emailed Alaska's anti-public education DEED commissioner, Deena Bishop, who, in a purported response to Nash, stated that DEED would be INVESTIGATING the Anchorage School District's actions. You can almost feel the mouth foam spraying off of Bishop's email, and easily envision her eyes rolling into the back of her head.

Apparently, Bishop, a highly unpopular former superintendent of the Anchorage School District, wasn't aware of the standard policy regarding the disclaimer, despite having run the district (nearly into the ground) for many years.
I can't wait to learn about the results of her INVESTIGATION!

Anyway, this weekend's entire meltdown is just another chapter in MAGA’s never-ending saga of manufacturing outrage over absolutely nothing. A routine disclaimer - the kind used by school districts from Florida to Alaska - rather incredibly became a communist plot and excuse for Alaska’s top state officials to posture for the far-right. It’s pathetic, predictable, and exactly why incompetent people like Bishop shouldn't be anywhere near public education policy. If Bishop actually cared about education, she'd support teachers and advocate for adequately funding public education.
But then again, without fake crises and imaginary enemies, what would Alaska's AG and DEED commissioner even do all day?
