Alaska Mask Makers Shipping 1,000 Masks to Chevak, Alaska

Alaska Mask Makers sprung to life at the beginning of the pandemic, immediately seeing a need for mask production and distribution across Alaska's most rural areas. To date, AMM's group of dedicated volunteers has produced and sent over 38,000 masks to areas of Alaska that need facial coverings the most.

The group's latest project to provide residents of Chevak with masks began with an initial 400 masks being provided to the city, but according to CeeJay Johnson, an organizer for Rural Alaska COVID Relief, "Alaska Mask Makers will be shipping an additional 1,000 masks to Chevak ASAP (on top of the 400 they have already sent)."

Lynden Air Cargo reportedly covered its own shipping costs and transported the initial mask shipment to Chevak after Alaska Mask Makers shared on November 6 that "more than 1/4 of residents in the Village of Chevak have contracted the virus in less than three weeks."

Back in October, AMM announced that they had "delivered 2,000 more masks to Anchorage School District" and that the masks were being distributed with priority to "SPED, Title I and Whaley."

More information on Alaska Mask Makers can be found on their Facebook Page and Website. They're always looking for volunteers and of course donations are accepted to help further their cause.
