The Anchorage School Board will meet tomorrow, August 17, at 6:00 pm.
The Anchorage School Board encourages members of the public to provide written or telephonic testimony. People who wish to testify must be signed up by 2:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
According to a statement in the school board agenda, a limited number of seats will be available in the board room due to social distancing, and those seats will be filled as requests for in-person testimony are received. Open seats will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. If you cannot attend in person or prefer to view online, the meeting will be live-streamed through the ASD YouTube Channel.
Far-Right COVID-19 misinformation group, Alaska Parents' Rights in Education has been encouraging their members to email the school board—asking them to institute a non-science-based "mask choice" masking policy.
Members of the group have also alleged that masking school children is "abuse," a sentiment echoed by Bronson supporter and Eagle River Assembly Person Jamie Allard.
An Anchorage attorney recently explained that recommendations from public health and medical experts on mask-wearing intending to prevent the spread of a virus do not fall within the legal definition of child abuse.
Anti-maskers will likely attend tomorrow's school board meeting.
