Ballot Group Seeking to Recall Meg Zaletel Loves Exclamation Points
In what may be the most dramatic name ever given to a ballot group, the 'We've had enough! Vote yes! Recall Zaletel' group filed with the Alaska Public Offices Commission last week.

In what may be the most dramatic name ever given to a ballot group, the 'We've had enough! Vote yes! Recall Zaletel group filed with the Alaska Public Offices Commission last week.
(That's two exclamation points for those of you keeping track).
According to the ballot group's filing, political activist Russell Biggs is Chair of the ballot group, and Anchorage-based tax-preparer Renee Mackey is the group's listed Treasurer.
Mr. Biggs was also the listed Chair of the Recall Rivera ballot group, which failed to remove Felix Rivera from his assembly seat this past April. Rivera said in June that the recall effort mounted against him was “without a doubt, a homophobic attempt to take out an Assemblymember."
The group working to prevent Assemblywoman Zaletel from being recalled filed with APOC last week as well, simply calling themselves 'No on Zaletel Recall.' The group mobilizing to defend Zaletel appears to be gearing up for a fight, listing three deputy treasurers on its filing in addition to Chair Carolyn Ramsey and the group's APOC report preparer Austin Mahan.
The Special Municipal Election for the Assembly Member Meg Zaletel Recall will be Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
According to a notice on the Anchorage Municipal Clerk website, ballot packages will be mailed to qualified Anchorage voters in District 4, 21 days before Election Day.
The Clerks office notes that the last day to register to vote or update your voter registration for this special election is Sunday, September 26, 2021, 30 days prior to Election Day.
