Birchwood Saloon Calls "B.S." on Save Anchorage — Not Closing

Last evening the Save Anchorage Facebook group presented a flyer during the Anchorage Assembly meeting that purportedly reflected “closed” or soon-to-be-closed businesses — but one of the businesses the Facebook group listed on its flyer doesn’t appear too happy at the moment.

In a post to the Birchwood Saloon Facebook page, the local business wrote in part:

“So, someone added us to some Facebook groups list of permanently closed Anchorage businesses, and to that, we’d like to call bullshit. We’re not open, simply because we haven’t found any new bartenders. And it probably didn’t help that this misinformed group went and told the internet we’re closed! ? Thanks!

Save Anchorage, the misinformed Facebook group has often made local Anchorage news for all of the wrong things such as when a group member posts a naked photograph of a mentally ill homeless woman, for example. The group has even caught the eye of Facebook employees in recent weeks, apparently directly intervening in how the online group conducts itself on its service.

A Save Anchorage moderator posted a response on Birchwood Saloon’s Facebook page expressing her “excitement” that the business is reopening. Why the group didn’t make an effort to check with the local business first before falsely sharing across social media that the saloon was permanently closed remains a deepstate mystery.

Interestingly, Birchwood Saloon’s announcement was on January 10th, and Save Anchorage members frantically flailed the flyer in front of the Anchorage Assembly on January 12th — yet the group made no mention to the Anchorage Assembly that their list was incorrect.

I am told that other businesses on the list may not be closed and that some may have closed prior to COVID-19 or for other reasons unrelated to the pandemic. I will update this post if there’s more information to share.

If you’re a bartender looking for a job, please consider reaching out to Birchwood Saloon. It sounds like they’re looking for staff — be sure to support them when they reopen because they’re not permanently closed.
