Date Set for Zaletel Recall
In a special meeting held today, the Anchorage assembly adopted an earlier than expected date for the Zaletel recall.

In a special meeting held today, the Anchorage assembly scheduled October 26, 2021, as the date of the special recall election.
A group of political activists seeks to recall Midtown District 4 representative Meg Zaletel from her seat on the Anchorage assembly.
The hypocrisy behind the recall effort can’t be overstated, the premise of which is based on the unproven allegation that a Zaletel participated in an Assembly meeting last summer with more people present than were allowed under COVID-19 gathering restrictions in place at the time.
The ‘No on Zaletel Recall‘ group, is helping to defeat the recall effort mounted against Zaletel.
Earlier this year, the same group of political activists who currently seek to recall Zaletel also attempted to recall Assemblyman Felix Rivera. The Rivera Recall effort tanked spectacularly, suffering a crushing and embarrassing defeat 56.5% – 43.5%.
Zaletel has said that the recall campaign was a “huge waste of taxpayer dollars" and that she was being recalled on the same grounds that were essentially rejected earlier this year, referring to the recall campaign against Rivera.
Last week, Democratic candidate for Governor Les Gara voiced his support for Zaletel writing on Facebook that the effort to recall her “reeks of meanness and game-playing,” and that Zaletel works hard and cares about the community.
Zaletel was elected to the Anchorage Assembly when she earned 52.4% of the vote in the municipal election on April 2, 2019.
