Dr. Kelly Lessens set to kick off re-election campaign
Anchorage School Board member Dr. Kelly Lessens is kicking off her re-election campaign.

Anchorage School Board member Dr. Kelly Lessens is kicking off her re-election campaign. The announcement which was made to Facebook states that a fundraising event will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 6 pm.
Dr. Lessens was elected to serve a one-year term on the Anchorage School Board and since being seated in May, Lessens says that she has kept her promise to prioritize student wellness, equity, and learning in the classrooms.
A statement on her website says that Dr. Lessens has championed student learning by touring schools, seeking educator input about strategic ways to improve student outcomes, staying in touch with community councils, supporting healthy frameworks for returning to school, and has worked with her colleagues to hone ASD's long-term goals for improved student outcomes.
Lessens is running for a full 3-year term on the school board and will likely face fierce opposition next year from right-wing conservatives who seek to seat an anti-mask, anti-equity and anti-equality ally of current school board member Dave Donley.
Details about the September 29 fundraising event can be found here.
