Handgun removed from disruptive Assembly attendee wearing red

An email was sent to the Anchorage Assembly this evening following the removal of a disruptive man from the Assembly chambers. The email raised serious concerns, claiming that a "small handgun" was seized from the man during a search.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, the man was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and was also found to be carrying a concealed gun. A series of photographs shared on Twitter by Anchorage Daily News photojournalist Loren Holmes confirmed the handgun's removal.

"Save Anchorage" members were encouraged to wear red-colored clothing at a series of Anchorage Assembly meetings this week by Eagle River Assemblyperson Jamie Allard. The man depicted in the photograph appears to be wearing a red shirt, but it is unknown whether he is a Save Anchorage member.

The email sent to the Assembly can be read below:

"While exiting the Assembly meeting this evening, I watched as APD handcuffed and body searched the fanatic that was removed from the Assembly Chambers. APD removed a small handgun from the waste-band of this right-wing radical.

This is the unacceptable danger that the Republican Party has unleashed in our great state; endangering the lives of everyone attending a public hot poker meeting. It's time for the council to clear the Chambers when the crowd starts to chant and continue misbehaving after being given way too many warnings."
