Head of Solid Waste Services Out

Updated: Reportedly, Zipay is "relinquishing his ownership stake and will no longer serve as a corporate officer for the company."
According to two sources, Dan Spafford is out as head of Solid Waste Services (SWS) and has been replaced by Dan Zipay. During the Anchorage mayoral campaign, then-candidate Dave Bronson repeatedly said that he thought SWS should be privatized.
Zipay is a listed director of Denali Disposal, a locally-owned refuse company. Zipay is also the father of Bronson supporter and notorious Anchorage Assembly testifier Bernadette Wilson. Wilson previously hosted her own TV and radio shows and was a critic of former Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz. Wilson was also David Bronson's campaign manager.
After Berkowitz's resignation, Wilson told the Anchorage Assembly, "I would like to commend the mayor for stepping down; it was definitely a little awkward to be told to wear a mask by a guy who didn't even wear pants."
Wilson also organized a "dancing flash mob" in front of Loussac Library last September and has testified against COVID-19 mandates and business closures.
