Liberal/Progressive Gun Club Forms in Anchorage
A post made to the social media platform Reddit announced that a new Liberal/Progressive gun club has formed in the city, calling itself the "Anchorage Progressive/Liberal Gun Club" and has established a Facebook page for the group.
The group writes of themselves:
"We are a group of like-minded individuals who are coming together to support our Second Amendment rights. Our goal is to educate our membership and community on gun safety, shooting techniques, self-defense, and firearms. We provide a welcoming environment to learn, ask questions, and practice. We are protectors and value honesty, integrity, and good moral values. All are welcome here no matter your religion, race, sexual orientation, political affiliation, gender, or age (Minors must be accompanied by a guardian or parent). We abide by all local and federal laws."
According to the group rules listed on their Facebook page, they make clear that they are "not a militia or paramilitary organization," and are about education and gun safety. The group's founder says he believes minorities and LGBTQ individuals often face barriers at gun ranges and that gatekeepers talk down to them. The newly formed group says they are "open and welcoming to all."
Reaction to the group's announcement appeared to be overwhelmingly positive, with much of the conversation revolving around the misconception that all liberals hate guns and how daunting it can be for some people who are interested in learning about firearms to do so. The group, which was formed yesterday, already has 37 members.
