Low voter turnout could mean the ANC-pocalypse is upon us

According to data-cruncher and AK Political Blog writer Robert Hockema, only 7% of registered voters have returned their ballots ahead of the upcoming April 5 election.

"What we know from those ballots is that GOP super voters are showing up. It's all hands on deck right now," Hockema warned today on Twitter.

East Anchorage Assemblyman Forrest Dunbar is being challenged by Stephanie Taylor, a Bronson loyalist turned right-wing radical whose gross unpopularity led her to enlist services from outside Alaska in a bid to oust Bronson's nemesis.

Taylor, a longtime member of the Save Anchorage group, believes homelessness should be criminalized and espouses extreme far-right views, notably that the violent attempted insurrection of the U.S. Capitol, was merely “unfortunate.” Taylor, who shares Dave Bronson’s far-right politics, looks to be a close ally of his on the Assembly and, like Jamie Allard, will most certainly vote to rubber stamp anything the corrupt Bronson administration puts in front of her.

Dunbar, a seasoned campaigner and staunch supporter of LGBTQ rights, encouraged people to get out the vote yesterday, writing on Twitter that in order to maintain any semblance of transparency from the Bronson administration, it would require the preservation of an assembly majority that isn't an automatic rubber stamp for the mayor.

"Initial returns show a race much like the mayoral. If you care about balance at the MOA, I urge you to turn in your ballot as soon as possible. Then make sure your friends & family do the same."

South Anchorage Assemblyman John Weddleton is seeking a third term on the Assembly and is being challenged by another Save Anchorage-backed candidate, Randy Sulte, who called the death of January 6 insurrectionist Ashli Babbit “tragic.”

Weddleton has campaigned on a compelling message of setting divisive politics aside and focusing on the work of the assembly. He holds an M.S. in Economics from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and a B.A. in Political Science from Tulane University. He brings extensive civic experience and a balanced perspective to the Anchorage Assembly.

Weddleton is considered reasonable, rational, thoughtful, well-meaning, and noticeably meticulous. Weddleton has demonstrated that he’s not going to automatically greenlight every idea that the Bronson Administration tosses out, but has made clear that he is willing to work with them — as every member of the assembly should.

Sulte, on the other hand, has spent his time appearing in photo ops with Suzanne Downing, editor of the Alaska Republican propaganda website Must Read Alaska. He is a proponent of mask choice, is anti-mandate, and identifies as pro-police, which I’m interpreting as meaning he "Backs the Blue." His continued silence after pro-Bronson supporters and some members of the Save Anchorage group wore Holocaust imagery at a series of Anchorage Assembly meetings last fall is noteworthy and damning.

Both Dunbar and Weddleton's races are expected to be very close and Bronson's radicals are indeed coordinating and working to turn out the vote to unseat candidates they wrongfully believe to be radical Marxist leftist socialist communists responsible for all of the city's problems.

Election Day is only one week away. Find your ballot, fill it out and return it by mail, secure dropbox, or Vote Center before 8 pm on April 5, 2022.
