Newly Elected Anchorage School Board Takes On Committee Assignments

Since sweeping each race for Anchorage School Board seats last month, the four progressive candidates (Carl Jacobs, Dr. Kelly Lessens, Dora Wilson and Pat Higgins) have settled into their committee assignments after having been sworn in last week.

Carl Jacobs is serving on the Finance Committee, is Chair of the Governance Committee, MOA Budget Advisory Commission, and ASD Student Advisory Board.

Dr. Kelly Lessens is serving as Chair of the Finance Committee, Communications, and School Based Community Health Centers.

Pat Higgins is serving on the Finance Committee and Chamber of Commerce Chugiak/Eagle River.

Dora Wilson is serving on the Communications Committee, Federation of Community Councils, National Black Caucus of SB Members, National Native American/Alaskan Native Caucus (NSBA), and the National Hispanic Caucus.

Last week, the school board met and organized a slate of officers for the 2021-2022 school board and also approved a policy change that would allow digital attendance to count toward the 75% physical attendance requirement, but only during a pandemic.
