Parler is Back

Parler is Back

Parler relaunched its social media service this morning after being banished to the online abyss last month when Amazon determined that the social media service had been used by Trump/QAnon insurrectionists to coordinate their coup attempt. Amazon said Parler had not adequately moderated its platform.

Earlier this month, Parler CEO John Matze became former Parler CEO John Matze after he was fired and replaced by the company's board.

Parler is using hosting services from Los Angeles-based company SkySilk, which said in a statement:

"SkySilk is well aware that Parler has received an aggressive response from those who believe their platform has been used as a safe haven for some bad actors, Skysilk does not advocate nor condone hate, rather, it advocates the right to private judgment and rejects the role of being the judge, jury, and executioner."

SkySilk's Chief Executive said he believes their company is taking the appropriate "necessary steps" to monitor the social media platform.

Parler moved its domain to Epik last month — a domain registrar that also provides services to Gab, which is known for hosting anti-Semitic content. Epik also hosts InfoWars, BitChute and Patriots.win.

Parler temporarily used services from the Russian company DDoS-Guard late last month, but it appears that is no longer the case.

In new community guidelines posted by the company, the company states that Parler "will not knowingly allow itself to be used as a tool for crime, civil torts, or other unlawful acts," and Parler's new values page distances the company from violent speech, writing:

"Biased content curation policies enable rage mobs and bullies to influence Community Guidelines. Parler’s viewpoint-neutral policies foster a community of individuals who tolerate the expression of all non-violent ideas."

Parler also says there will be a "trolling filter" in place which covers up content that attacks someone based on race, sex, sexual orientation or religion, although users who want to see those attacks may click through a filter to do so.

Today's relaunch of Parler hasn't gone as well as many had hoped as signup services and various links on the site either didn't work or worked intermittently.

Neither Apple nor Google Play have reinstated the Parler app to their App Stores, meaning that Parler is web-based only — at least for now.

Alaska conservative blogs and groups used Parler before Amazon terminated their hosting services with the company, and it remains unclear if they will jump back to the controversial social media platform right away — if at all.
