Rivera & Zaletel: Bronson Forcing Assembly Into a "No-Win Scenario"

A press release issued by Midtown Anchorage Assembly Members Felix Rivera and Meg Zaletel says that without the Alaska Club, Mayor David Bronson is "forcing the Assembly into a no-win scenario."

The press release and statements from Rivera and Zaletel came after yesterday's Anchorage Assembly Committee Meeting on Housing and Homelessness.

At the meeting, Chief of Staff Craig Campbell told the Anchorage Assembly that the Bronson administration was not "inclined" to move forward with a plan to purchase the Alaska Club. Mayor Bronson has until Friday, July 9, to decide whether to buy the old Alaska Club building on Tudor Road.

Assemblywoman Meg Zaletel said that purchasing the Alaska Club building is a "reasonable response" to repeated requests to address visible homelessness and says that without the Alaska Club as an option, "nothing in Midtown will change."

Both Assemblymembers are urging the Bronson administration to move forward with the purchase of the building "in good faith."
