Save Anchorage Is Simply Incapable of Doing the Right Thing

I wanted to take a moment out of my day and address a statement made to Save Anchorage by one of its moderators because, indeed, "things have gotten quite wild," but not for the reasons in their post to the group.

Save Anchorage has not had favorable press coverage since its inception in July, but that's not because anyone is attempting to "smear" them as he dismissively suggests, as their group is adept at one thing and one thing only...smearing themselves.
After months of tolerating the intolerable, the group's leadership finally asked their members to behave like civilized adults.
The group, which often boasts its 9,000 members, doesn't have those numbers. Many of those accounts are reportedly said to be fake. A smaller percentage of that total is within the Municipality of Anchorage, a fact they never share with the public.
Their boasting of these numbers is part of their own internalized sickness; that numbers somehow lend credibility to the group's message, ranging from the absurd to the impractical. Numbers have not helped the group be effective.
After being soundly defeated in their attacks on AO-58 and AO-66, the group has pivoted to the only issue they can — COVID-19, an issue more critical to the vast majority of voters in the municipality.
It's a losing issue for the group to take up and nothing more than an attempt to stay relevant by attaching themselves to controversial subjects.
The group, now firmly entrenched in anti-maskism, should be treated like a public health hazard whenever they assemble and avoided like the plague that they are. They should be confronted each time they spew their anti-COVID-19 misinformation in the comment sections of media outlets such as the Anchorage Daily News, where they post QAnon and anti-COVID-19 slop.
Anti-mask groups directly impact Anchorage's COVID-19 numbers, causing them to skyrocket as our hospitalization numbers grow. Yet, they dare complain to our elected officials when they seek only to protect public health and safety. The Facebook group is uncaring and unmoved that they might spread the virus to a vulnerable person but screams, "Tyranny!" when the threat of mandates or restrictions looms on the city's horizon, failing to recognize their direct role in what's coming down the pike.
Today's statement, whether it was born out of sincerity or damage control, may very well be too little too late, as Save Anchorage has already charted its course.
