Suggestive Comments Consume The Watchman in Rivera Article

If you can stomach it, there's a vile display of homophobia, suggestive threats, and dog-whistling happening over on the Facebook page of the Alaska Watchman.

Facebook comments related to an "article" written by Alaska Watchman about Anchorage Assembly Chair Felix Rivera and his "leftist agenda" had far-right commenters seemingly agitated by the openly gay Assembly member as they took to Facebook to share their homophobia and suggestive threats with the public.

"My comments regarding Rivera...would not be allowed on this forum...ol fashion country justice..would suffice ...back in the day......" wrote one Facebook user, followed by another user who wrote, "that day may be required in Anchorage again soon."

Another spawn of toxic social media wrote that they were waiting on the next Fort Sumpter. Others suggested it may be "time to start looking in this clown's (Rivera's) closet and at his financial statements."

"Looks like someone should take him behind the woodshed," wrote another.

The far-right mouth-frothing didn't stop there, however. One person suggested Mr. Rivera was "trying real hard to get assassinated," and another called on others to make [Rivera's] life miserable.

"Vile clown, criminal scum," and because the far-right is infatuated with pedophilia, one user wrote, "Wow if Pedo" had a look. Another commenter took to body-shaming the Assemblyman, while yet another referred to Rivera as "immoral."

Indeed, one cannot escape the irony of Watchman readers using referring to Rivera as "immoral."

Anchorage Assembly members have had their home addresses posted online and been subjected to abuse, including what's been described as an increasing number of perceived threats. Assembly members were given "active shooter" training this past Friday.

More reasonable social media users have expressed concern in recent weeks that someone is going to get hurt as the right ramps up the rhetoric and hate across various social media platforms.
