The Mailbag: November 14, 2020

I don't think some people will believe this...but it's not about "driving the conversation" -- it really isn't. Some staff, parents, and people in the community have concerns. They're afraid for themselves and their family members. We hear a lot about children and how Covid impacts them, but not a lot about how adults who work in the school system feel.
Teachers have been referred to as 'lazy' and whose only desire is to sit back and collect a paycheck. Honestly, I have not spoken to one person who believes that children do not belong in school -- most simply question whether the time is now and wonder if politics or science is guiding the decision. Some take issue with school board members being part of pro-reopening Facebook groups even after they chastised teachers for expressing their own opinions publicly. It's a heated debate for sure.
Writing about the other side seems perfectly legitimate.

It happens. They'll eventually get bored and go back to OANN where they can watch 'almost but not quite the news.' Politics has gotten increasingly divisive over the last four years...I can't possibly imagine why.
Anyway, I'm sorry you had a negative Blue Alaskan experience, please accept this coupon for five free Alaska Attorney General kissy emojis. I hope they don't make you feel uncomfortable.
Q. "I look forward to the COVID breakdown of the data you do but why do you do it?"
A. It started as a project for older people who aren't good with technology or navigating the dashboard. The mobile version of the dashboard isn't super user-friendly either. It's really just about organizing the data people seem to be most interested in and putting that data front and center. The Covid deniers hate it which is a secondary reason for why I keep doing it.
Facebook Comment: "...also, you are the highlight of my pandemic."
A. Frightening.
Yeah...I don't know. I don't see the harm in posting the occasional funny video (I'm all about TikTok) if only because there's so much uncertainty at this point that we have to make our own fun.
I saw someone being taken out of their home placed onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. EMS workers were fully suited up when they took the person and it was surreal to watch.
There are outbreaks in buildings, and the inflammatory children's disease MISC-C is being seen in Alaska now for the first time...sometimes you need a good moose video to lighten the mood. What do we have without laughter...or exploding whales?
