Assembly Leadership Statement on the Passing of Congressman Don Young

Following the passing of Congressman Don Young, Assembly leadership recognized his tremendous service and legacy to Alaskans and extended condolences to his family and friends.
“Congressman Young devoted most of his life to serving his community and all of Alaska. We honor his dedication to the people of Alaska and we celebrate his love for our great state,” said Assembly Chair Suzanne LaFrance.
“Our hearts go out to the Congressman’s family and friends during this difficult time. Congressman Young was an Alaskan icon and we mourn his loss.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced today that Rep. Young, the longest-serving Republican in House history, will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on March 29. A formal ceremony will be held to honor Young that morning, following a viewing for members of Congress.
The 88-year-old legislator passed away last Friday while flying home to Alaska.
