Assemblyman Rivera to Encourage Override of Mayor Bronson's Veto

Anchorage Assemblyman Felix Rivera issued a press release this evening writing that he was "astounded" Mayor Bronson had used his first veto on an ordinance that would have created a Houseless Lived Experience Board.
The proposed ordinance had been approved by a 9-2 vote of the assembly, which Rivera wrote demonstrated a "veto-proof level of support" and says he'll be pushing the Assembly to override Mayor Bronson's veto.
AO 2021-26 was supported by many organizations such as the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness, the Houseless Resources Advisory Council, and the Alaska Black Caucus. The ordinance would have given people experiencing homelessness a seat at the table.
Interesting to note is that while Rivera said he was "astounded" by Mayor Bronson's veto, nowhere in Rivera's press release did he note his surprise.
