Bronson Administration Opposes Mandating Mitigation Strategies to Help Protect Municipal Employees

In an incredible Facebook post written today, Anchorage Mayor David Bronson said that his views and position on COVID-19 mandates were “very clear” and that his administration has “no intention” of placing mandates on businesses, mandating masking, or supporting mandated COVID-19 vaccinations.

The mayor’s statement comes on the heels of statements made by infectious disease doctors who told the Anchorage Assembly at last week’s COVID-19 briefing that Anchorage’s healthcare system was on the verge of “collapse” as local hospitals continue to see an influx of COVID-19 patients.

Mayor Bronson, backed by the Facebook group Save Anchorage during the mayoral election, wrote that he was only interested in providing Anchorage residents with “real-time resources.” Bronson did not clarify in his post what those specific resources were. The Facebook post also claims Bronson’s administration has begun “ramping up” new COVID-19 testing sites and has made “new resources” available for vaccinations and treatment.

Bronson also wrote that his view on the COVID-19 vaccine should to a matter of “personal choice” and not the choice of “politicians or political activists.” However, the mayor seems quite fine, capitulating to the demands of his Save Anchorage supporters that he not mandate anything that might keep Anchorage’s healthcare system intact or help save lives.

The mayor’s Facebook statement was likely in response to the news this morning that Anchorage Assemblywoman Meg Zaletel would introduce a resolution at this evening’s Anchorage Assembly meeting. That resolution would request Anchorage Mayor David Bronson direct masks or face coverings be required in public indoor areas of Municipal Buildings and to promote mitigation members when the Municipality of Anchorage is at “substantial risk” or “high alert” levels for community transmission of COVID-19.

If local area doctors are correct and Anchorage’s healthcare system does indeed collapse, it will likely be a direct result of Bronson’s cynicism and delusion.
