The Silent Surrender of Moms for Liberty Anchorage
An organization built entirely on making as much noise as possible quietly slipped out the back door without making so much as a peep!
The fringe right threw a happy parade when the Anchorage chapter of Moms for Liberty launched a little over two years ago, trumpeted breathlessly by far-right figures Rep. Jamie Allard, Assembly Member Jared Gocker, Must Read Alaska, the Mat-Su-based Alaska Watchman, and the anti-LGBTQ hate group Alaska Family Council.
Following in the footsteps of Save Anchorage, Moms for Liberty Anchorage has closed its doors. Their Facebook page, containing a small handful of followers, is gone, and a notice on the national Moms for Liberty website states that the local chapter is seeking "new leadership." It is noteworthy that an organization built entirely on making as much noise as possible quietly slipped out the back door without a single press release or making so much as a peep!
With a stated mission to hold elected leaders accountable or replace them with "liberty-minded individuals," Moms for Liberty set out to flip the script and install obedient foot soldiers eager to ban books and bully teachers, school board members, and marginalized students in the Anchorage School District.
Things didn't go to plan, however, with their first two endorsed school board candidates, Kay Schuster and Chelsea Pohland, being summarily destroyed at the ballot box.
Undeterred, the following year, Klanned Karenhood's local leadership sought out more suckers willing to promote its hateful agenda, finding one in the form of Alexander Rosales - a pro-castration sicko and Hitler-shouting QAnon conspiracy crank whose insane social media posts have garnered quite a bit of attention over the years!
In a Facebook post written by artificial intelligence during his first run for the school board, Rosales gushed over the endorsement - calling it an "absolute honor."
It was an enthusiastic pairing that makes perfect sense when you analyze the extreme ideology fueling the group's so-called mission. Moms for Liberty operates on a deeply paranoid worldview obsessed with the baseless conspiracy theory that public schools are Marxist indoctrination centers. Their "concerned parents" are nothing more than right-wing activists recruited to hijack school board meetings and unleash wild accusations, smear dedicated teachers, librarians, and school administration officials as "groomers" (child sex abusers) simply for having inclusive books on a library shelf or...gasp...acknowledging the existence of LGBTQ+ students.

Anyway, after a couple of years tying itself to a series of "candidates" so egregiously unqualified and extreme, Moms for Liberty Anchorage simply never recovered.
Public education is all of the things right now - and while the one-time tax levy to support the Anchorage School District is failing by a margin of just 448 votes, a deficit of fewer than 500 votes out of 65,876 cast, is no mandate against public school funding and provides zero signal that voters have stopped caring about our schools.
Instead, the demise of Moms for Liberty in Anchorage and rejection of their endorsed candidates can be attributed to voters being sick of schools used as a punching bag by lunatic MAGA activists. The electorate is looking for genuine pro-education heroes willing to step up and protect schools from the relentless defund-public-education shitshow currently raining down from Governor Dunleavy's office and his obedient MAGA minions in Juneau.
Anyway, that's all I've got other than to say - good riddance to Moms for Liberty. Let their silent, tail-between-their-legs midnight retreat serve as a permanent reminder to any other extremist group looking to gain a foothold in Anchorage.
