Zaletel named new Interim Executive Director of Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness

Today, the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (ACEH) announced that Assembly member, Meg Zaletel, has been appointed their Interim Executive Director. According to a press release from Anchorage Legislative Liaison Clare Ross, Zaletel will now lead the community's efforts to address homelessness.

"Given her new role, and in extensive consultation with ethics counsel, Ms. Zaletel will no longer Chair or be a member of the Assembly's Committee on Housing and Homelessness, nor will she participate in her capacity as an Assembly member on issues involving policy or appropriations related to homelessness," states the press release.

Assembly member Felix Rivera will become Chair of the Committee on Housing and Homelessness, a position he previously held. Vice Chair Christopher Constant and John Weddleton will continue as the members of the Assembly in the facilitation group working on the exit from mass care.

ACEH wrote in their press release that implementing the Sullivan Arena Mass Care Exit Strategy and Long-Term Plan will include a broader public/private partnership with the facilitation workgroup, including representatives from the Homelessness Leadership Council and ACEH.

"Zaletel has the experience and ability to advance the mission and values of the coalition," said ACEH.

In a statement provided to The Blue Alaskan, Jasmine Boyle said that she has taken a new position as Chief Operating Officer of RurAL Cap and will start with the organization in December. RurAL Cap's mission is to empower low-income Alaskans through advocacy, education, affordable housing, and direct services that respect unique values and cultures.

It was not immediately clear if Zaletel would seek re-election in April. Kathy Henslee, a longtime member of the far-right Save Anchorage Facebook group, is challenging Zaletel for her seat on the Anchorage Assembly.
