Agent of the Republican Party Says Petersburg Sullivan Ineligible
The Alaska Division of Elections is working overtime to torpedo Daniel J. Sullivan’s U.S. Senate campaign. Shocker.
Oh boy.
It looks like the Alaska Division of Elections is working mightily hard to torpedo Daniel J. Sullivan's (Petersburg Dan Sullivan's) U.S. Senate campaign. In a June 10 letter, Elections Director Carol Beecher issued a preliminary determination stating the preponderance of evidence does not support Sullivan's eligibility for office.
According to Beecher, Petersburg Sullivan has until 5:00 p.m. today to submit additional information that might persuade Beecher and save his candidacy. A final determination will follow shortly after that deadline.

Beecher's letter references complaints DOE has received, presumably from the Republican National Senatorial Committee, and an "investigation" opened by Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom, but fails to outline the specific statutory violations Sullivan allegedly committed. She's relying on vague administrative language rather than citing concrete legal or statutory failures. It sure does look like the Division is ready to wield its authority to exclude a candidate from the ballot without explaining the exact criteria being used to justify the disqualification.
To say that Beecher brings a heavy partisan bias to the Division of Elections is an understatement. She is a registered Republican who donated to Donald Trump's 2016 campaign as well as to the campaigns of Nancy Dahlstrom and Kelly Tshibaka. Her professional background includes working as a scheduler for Sarah Palin.

The most alarming aspect of Beecher's record is her public stance on the 2020 presidential election. During her initial press interviews as the new elections director, Beecher refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of Joe Biden's election victory. She deflected basic questions about election fairness and stated she did not know enough to say what happened in other states. 🙄
Regardless of what Petersburg Dan Sullivan submits by today's 5:00 p.m. deadline, Beecher's final candidacy determination is probably already sitting in her outbox, all but guaranteeing this charade will likely land in the lap of the courts.
